Brooklyn Public Library is proud to celebrate Black History Month. This February, BPL is presenting dozens of movies, performances, author readings and other events that honor the past and present achievements of African Americans. We encourage you to explore black history and the African American experience by viewing our subject guides, reading our book recommendations, attending events, browsing our photo and art exhibition archives, or visiting BPL's African American Heritage Center or Caribbean Literary and Cultural Center.
The African American Heritage Center (AAHC) at Macon Library contains material on African American history and culture as well as the "Preserving Footsteps" collection. All public computers have genealogical databases including Ancestry.com.
The Caribbean Literary and Cultural Center, located at Flatbush Library, preserves and presents the histories and cultures of the peoples of the Caribbean through a circulating collection, programming and art exhibitions. Learn more here.
