3-D and the Artist's Book.

About the Exhibition

Artist's books are a new and growing visual medium. The artists in this exhibition express their interest in this form in ways that move beyond emphasizing the visual over the literary aspects of books, treating books as sculpture.

Piece by Stephanie Brody-Lederman

They challenge the preconceptions of the book as merely a two-dimensional structure for written information. The pieces transform books into powerful sculptural objects, incorporating diverse, sometimes unconventional, materials.

The 10 artists featured are developing this promising form in New York and internationally.

Participating artists:

Sarah Bodman
Stephanie Brody-Lederman
Judy Hoffman
David Horton
Ed Hutchins
Helen Levin
Debbie Officer
Maddy Rosenberg
Miriam Schaer
Hubert Sommerauer

Curator and artist Maddy Rosenberg is based in Brooklyn. She works in a variety of visual media and curates exhibitions in New York City and Europe.

A concurrent installation at the Kentler International Drawing Center in Red Hook combines walls, shelves and pedestals to create a room of book objects.
